Week 3: An Introduction between the Feces and the Fan

Thursday was the day Matthew and his fellow students were supposed to be allowed home. Instead we woke up to find the whole Southern Flu thing exploded. Word got out that there was no vaccine. In fact the government still did not know what they were dealing with. Some said a virus, others said a micro-organism or bacteria, and some just admitted they had no clue.

The CDC’s official word was that it was a parasitic virus of unknown origin. The symptoms were expanded to include pale complexion and a “death-like” state followed by confusion and aggressive behavior. They said that anyone who is thought to be infected should be avoided at all costs.

The media began to break down as well. Despite what you might think, they were not censored and no information was withheld. In fact I wish they would have been. Instead the media ran rampant with rumors and half-truths and no control. They reported anything and everything and began to collapse in on themselves. No one believed a word of anything reported and simply came to their own conclusions. This quickly led to protests, riots, and civil unrest.

My wife and I began to make our plans to penetrate the now popularly named “Central Florida Blockade” and rescue our son.
