Week 10: School Bus v. Culvert

As I made my way south on I-95 I kept my eyes open for any signs of Matthew or his class. Sometime this afternoon I exited near Palm Bay to look for a store to loot to replenish my supplies. From inside the gas station I happened to see the tail end of a school bus across the street. It had run off the road and crashed into a culvert. I walked over to the wreckage and saw “Leon County Public Schools” written along the side. It took me a few seconds to comprehend that it was Matthew’s school bus. As I stared at the wreck I realized that part of me did not want to go inside. I did it anyway.

I searched the bus and by the looks of things I could tell it had been abandoned in a hurry. Musical instruments had been left under the seats. I found Matthew’s French Horn. I did note that most of the students took their suitcases, backpacks or other personal items. That gave me some hope.

A few zombies came upon me while I was investigating. Rather than fight them, I retreated down the road a ways until I lost them. With the warmer temperatures, fighting zombies has gotten much more dangerous even when you are one on one, let alone three on one. Flight over fight is usually your best option; assuming you have an option.

I did double back to the bus even though it was getting dark. Maybe it was a risky thing to do, I don't know.  It may sound stupid but I wanted to retrieve the mouthpiece to Matthew’s French Horn. I wanted to have something of his to carry around with me… something to keep in my pocket to remind me of him. In my haste to begin searching for Matthew I didn’t think to grab a photo of him before I left home.

Wow...I like this entry!! It's touching he wants a piece of his sun, and I like how the warmer weather is keeping the Zombie situation escalating.
