Week 11: Stranded Among the Stampede

The zombies at the school had been nothing but old men and old women. In fact I wondered if they had evacuated a nursing home to there. There is still hope for Matthew. I decided to head back to the library for the night. I never made it. As I was traveling south in my new vehicle I was greeted by a stampede of zombies heading north. I threw the car in reverse and tried to get away. I slammed backward into the side of a building and scrambled onto the roof of my vehicle.

The zombies started pouring around the car and building like a river flowing around a rock. Most of them did not seem interested in me. Herd mentality perhaps, I don’t know. Occasionally one would stop and realize I was helpless and try to join me atop the car. I gave it a blast from my shot gun to thank it for noticing me.

Eventually I ran out of ammo but the flow of zombies showed no sign of letting up. I think every zombie in south Florida had decided to migrate north at the same time.

Worried that another zombie would eventually notice me on top of the car, I decided to try to get onto the roof of the building I had backed into. But even standing on the car, the roof wasn’t quite within my reach. There was a metal pipe that went up the side of the building and onto the roof which stuck up about six inches at the top. I took my jeans off and managed to loop the crotch around this bit of metal pipe and climb my way up.

I won’t be able to stay up here for long. I don’t have any food or water with me and there is no hope of scavenging supplies from within the building I’m on. The zombie stampede has broken through the front picture windows of the store and they are flowing straight through the building and out the back door. My only hope is to wait it out.
