This morning I made my way through the burned section of the base. As I approached a second gate, I pulled out a makeshift white flag I made from an undershirt and began waving it. They stopped me and I was stripped searched… again.
Once it was established that I was not infected I was allowed into the base. I have gained the nickname “Lucky” among the soldiers here. Apparently the burned section of the base that I walked through had been heavily mined.
“There goes Lucky. Tiptoes through the minefield without a care in the world.” “Hey Lucky, we’re taking bets that you can’t make it back through the minefield when you leave. You want a piece of the action?” That’s what the soldiers say when I walk by. Funny stuff. Hardy har har.
I keep hoping to hear, “You looking for your son? We got him right here, safe and sound.” Or maybe, “Matthew Taylor? Yeah I know him. He and his classmates are in the safest bunker the army has. Let me take you to him.”
Instead no one has information on my son. I have been referred to a Sgt. Studdard who is apparently off on a mission or some crap and won’t be back until Thursday. Until then I will use my new found celebrity as “Lucky” to try and glean as much information from the soldiers as I can.

Lucky! Ha! Nice touch with the minefield. It lightens the mood a bit. I have really enjoyed this story so far. Keep up the awesomeness.
Talk about Irony. I found this blog yesterday and I myself am writing a blog with a storyline involving a virus like this oO. Small world. I love how this story is turning out, Let's see how long "Lucky" remains that way.
Making it through the mine fields and stuff is a very nice touch!! But the soldiers seem a little too at ease to be constantly making jokes & bothering him....maybe there will be a Zombie invasion at the Fort soon?? lol
Haha, thanks everyone. We'll see how long the "Lucky" moniker lasts.
Love the nick name "Lucky". Love the mine field stuff too. Great writing as always Simon. Keep up the good work. Sandy Araujo
Thanks again, Sandy. I appreciate your support as always.
