I think I was in shock when I wrote yesterday’s entry. I should elaborate on what happened. After I was processed I made my way to the Jacksonville Jail. The officials there told me that the students were in fact there and Matthew had been with them.
“Had?” I asked.
It seems that Mike had arrived two days before me. He had told them that I had been infected, was unfit to travel, and that I requested to see Matthew one last time before I turned.
Mike even went to the trouble to forge some kind of note. Like I wrote an excuse for Matthew to leave class early or something. It is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. I guess it wasn’t so stupid to the officials at Jacksonville Jail though because they allowed him to take my son. They even kept the note... brought it to me so I could verify that it was not my hand writing and signature. Give me a fucking break. I wadded it up and threw it in the guy’s face.
As I walked off one of the ladies staying at the jail stopped me. She had known Matthew for the short time he was there and had tried to take care of him. She said that she watched as Mike had left with him. That they had headed north.
She wanted to come with me, wanted to help me find Matthew. I thanked her but declined. Last thing I need is someone slowing me down.

UGH! Two days is a lot of time to make up, especially with nothing more than a general direction!
Hope he didn't miss an opportunity with the help that lady could have offered in getting Matthew.
He didn't miss it, despite his best efforts.
