Week 21: Pimp My Ride

I don’t claim to be much of a grease monkey but I was able to scavenge a lot of useful parts from other vehicles in the warehouse to soup up the van.  Brenda helped out as well and with our powers combined I think we beefed the old Econoline up pretty well.

We took the car doors off a station wagon and mounted them to the sides of the van at each of the four wheel wells. Hopefully this will help protect the wheels and add some reinforcement to the side walls.

There was a pickup truck that had some dog kennel cages in its bed. I was able to strip wire mesh from the cages and use it to cover the windows on the van. Cut a hole in the roof of the van and used one of the cage doors to fashion an escape hatch in case we get stuck.

Our best find came in the form of a bulldozer hidden under a tarp at the back of the warehouse. It looked like the bulldozer had been involved in a rollover accident; the cab compartment was all crushed in, but luckily the blade was still in good shape. I used that to replace my battering ram that Bubba the zombie had broken. I did make one improvement however: I angled it slightly to the right so it would push the zombies to the side when they hit.

I was also able to use the metal plates from the bulldozer tracks to add some armor to weak spots on the van. To finish it off with that nice “Mad Max” look Brenda suggested we add a good assortment of spikes and chains to the overall décor.
