Week 22: Lost and Found

I don’t know what happened to Brenda. I don’t know why she ran off and I don’t know where she has been. All I know is I have found her and something is terribly wrong.

I had given up hope. I was leaving town and heading north again. As I reached the edge of the city I saw another pharmacy. It made me think of Brenda. Then I noticed the zombies that were gathering outside of it. They were all banging on the door. The horde had not grown too big so I figured, what the hell, and decided I would check it out.

It took a little while to disperse the zombies and eliminate each one (about 7 in all) but I managed. I stepped into the pharmacy and the first thing I noticed was the place had been trashed. Somebody had gone through a rampage breaking stuff and knocking things over. As I made my way to the back toward the pharmacy counter I found Brenda, lying on the floor, curled in a fetal position and crying.

I tried to ask her what was wrong, I tried to comfort her. She pushed me away, yelled something about how it was “all gone”, then grabbed me and hugged me. She thanked God that I didn’t leave her.

Then she sobered up, put on a smile and acted like nothing had happened. “Let’s go find Matthew,” she said. When I tried to press her about what had happened she just said she didn’t want to talk about it.

Brenda has assured me that she wasn’t infected. The thing is, when she hugged me I could feel she was running a fever. I haven’t noticed any red hives yet.
