Life with the Undead is blog fiction presented as one man's ongoing journal chronicling life in a post zombie apocalypse world. Start at the beginning.
YEAR ONE is now complete. Visit the discussion tab on our Facebook page to see what is happening next. Otherwise you can follow me on Twitter to see what other projects I have planned for 2011. Thanks for all the support.
Oh, Mr. Taylor, if you only knew how right you were. Jonas, or the Leader as you call him, did have some help. Help in the form of your old buddy, Mike Grainger. When I first met Jonas a week ago we quickly came to realize we had something in common: a hatred for you.
So we decided to work together. Jonas stalled while I continued on to pass you up. But I wasn’t just scouting ahead. No, while you were waiting around for a free ride with Jonas’ entourage I was hard at work setting up an ambush for you. And as evidenced by my currently writing in your precious journal, it worked. It’s funny, as I skim through your entries it looks like only a few weeks ago you were chastising the people of St. Matthews for following Jonas. Here, I will quote directly from you:
“They chose to follow him and let him make the decisions, all because he makes life easier for them with his so-called ward. The rest of us have to contend with the zombies, why shouldn’t they?”
Did I transcribe that right? That is what you wrote, isn’t it Mr. Taylor? Well then why were you waiting around for Jonas to move along? You should have dealt with the zombies like the rest of us. I certainly had to deal with my share of zombies as I was racing ahead of you. It wasn’t easy but while you were snooping around in the zombie free zone (oh and probably while Brad was nailing your girlfriend) I was working hard, fending off zombies, setting up tire spikes and camouflaging my new rig/battering ram. Do you know how hard that was? It took a lot of planning and work. I had to put up blockades to funnel you into just the right lane. I had to try and gauge how far you would skid so I could know where to best position my rig. Not to mention the big ditch I had to dig in the median for me to ram your truck into. There probably were easier ways to get you, but I wanted you alive. And Jonas wanted Brad alive. So I did it the hard way, and I have to say, now that I can sit here writing in your journal while you watch tied and gagged… it was worth every ounce of effort. I can’t wait for you to see what I have planned.
