Week 11: Searching for a Safe House

I had to find a new car and hunting knife because I didn’t want to mess with my old ones after the zombie encounter. I didn’t want to risk getting “concentrated zombie juice” on me. I made sure the library was locked up tight, I reviewed with Caleb what he should and should not do while I was gone, and then I headed out.

Going is very slow. The first school I came to had been deserted. I am sitting outside another school now. It looks like it had been a safe house at one time. There are makeshift fortifications and a lighting system hooked up to a generator.

Unfortunately the windows are busted out, one of the doors is swinging open in the wind, and I can see zombies aimlessly wandering the halls inside. I wonder if this is where Matthew had been. I’m going to have to look at these monsters for any signs of my son or his friends. I’m starting to feel sick.

It is so sad that Caleb has to be left behind for now. I hope he remains safe. The second school with zombies in side sounds like things might get worse. I so can't wait to read each new post. This is a "can't put it down" type of book. I love it. Always great writing. I have 1 question though. How many weeks will you be posting? I kinda want to get a feel for the length of the blog/story, like how many chapters in a book. If you know. No biggie if you don't or can't say yet. Thanks Sandy Araujo FAN

Hey Sandy. It's not set in stone but I have an outline for posts up to the end of the year. That should wrap up any story arcs that are going and would be a point where I can decide if I want to continue or move on to something else. No clues as to when we will find out about Matthew, though. :)

brilliant as always Simon. you've got a knack for this brand of storytelling.

anyway, I think it was totally reasonable to leave Caleb behind. he's shown that he will choke under pressure, and someone like that is more dangerous than a zombie. I love the "concentrated zombie juice" angle too, I always wondered why you wouldn't risk horrible infection after splattering the infected's bodily fluids all over yourself with your standard close-range shotgun blast.

Thanks for the feedback, Librarian. Glad you liked it.
