I’ve reached Jacksonville. I am so close now.
As I approached the outskirts of the city I found a group of about twenty survivors working on a wall. Yes another wall. Apparently there is still some sort of government left in Jacksonville and they are working on defense projects.
The city is divided by a river and they are trying to encircle the east bank with a wall that will follow along I-295. This is phase two of Project Shield.
Phase one was to build a wall to encircle the downtown area on the east bank. The portion of land that the wall was to protect is cradled by the river on three sides so the survivors were able to concentrate their efforts on the fourth side. The phase one wall follows I-95 and had been completed prior to the zombie stampede. It had held against the horde.
The Jacksonville Jail is located within the phase one territory. I can only hope this is the jail that Mike was talking about.
I got all this information from one of the workers. The man’s name was Kenneth and he was also nice enough to draw me a map. He said that there is a ferry on the south and north, but those are only for cleared residents and such. No newcomers. The main entrance was about halfway up the length of the wall at Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. That is were I will have to go to be processed and allowed in. I am headed there now.
…
Jacksonville has a strong army presence. The forces that were stationed at the central Florida Blockade had fallen back to Jacksonville when the zombies broke through. I am glad to hear that many of them survived.
