The U-haul is definitely not as maneuverable as the mail jeep was. This has slowed our progress considerably. I can’t imagine Matthew is traveling too swiftly either, but I guess it all depends on what kind of help he has.
On the positive side, Brad managed to use some of the tools we found to punch a small doorway through the back of the cab to the storage compartment. Now at least we can get back there without getting out of the truck.
He and Brenda have been trying to set it up so we can start spending the night in there instead of stopping to find refuge every evening. I still have some security concerns about that, but we’ll see. For now I think we will continue as we have been doing.
…
We stopped and set up for the night in a small office complex just off the interstate. We found a pretty good spot on the second floor in a corner office with a balcony and big windows facing east & south.
As I sat here pondering the attack points, possible bottle necks and any other zombie associated scenarios I realized that I hadn’t seen any zombies for a while. In fact as I scanned town from the balcony I couldn’t see a single one.
So we immediately packed up and left. I guess that this must confirm that the leader is in pursuit of us and he must have his ward in tow. Looks like we will be traveling through the night in spite of how that turned out last time we tried it. I guess we will be testing out Brenda and Brad’s sleeping set up sooner than I thought.
Maybe this is a good thing, though. With any luck maybe we can stay just out of reach of the leader and just within the area of influence of his ward. It would definitely make traveling easier.
