Week 42: Zombie Radio

Harold came around to talk to me. This time he had a peace offering in the form of information. Harold told me why he is so interested in Harvey.

Harold told me that when this epidemic first started the government performed testing on uninfected individuals to try to find a way to fight Legion (Note: Legion is what they call the nanobacterium that is behind the infection). The CDC would extract Legion from carriers and then try to mutate it. Next they would inject the mutated version into the uninfected “volunteers.” The idea was to try to create an anti- nanobacterium that would go through and destroy Legion in infected individuals.

It was just a bunch of wild-ass guessing on their part. The CDC was grasping at straws. The results were unpredictable and inconsistent; however there was one reoccurring side effect that Harold had heard about. Some of the “volunteers” would become zombie radios.

Of course when I heard this I just stared at Harold like he was crazy. He elaborated.

Legion operates on a sort of hive mind that is not limited to the person infected. The nanobacterium in one zombie can communicate with the nanobacterium in another body.

“Like mental telepathy?” I asked.

Harold laughed. “It is not psychic powers or anything like that” he said. “It is no more magic than a CB radio or walkie talkie. They just use radio waves.”

Turns out you can even pick up their chatter on a regular radio. Only problem is it just sounds like white noise and no one can decipher it.

Then some of the “volunteers” started hearing things in their head. Not really voices, but thoughts and ideas and memories. They were picking up the radio waves and their brains were somehow partially deciphering it.

So Harold thinks Harvey is a zombie radio.

very cool development.

so the zombies have memories from their past lives? Are they thinking about more than just "eat" or "chase"?

What an awesome idea for the story! I dread the end of this blog. It will be so missed. I have enjoyed and looked forward to reading it.
