Week 44: They’re Here

We were still in the quarantine hold when we felt the ship shift, kind of rock to the side suddenly. It felt like a rogue wave had hit us; in fact that is exactly what we thought it was until about fifteen minutes later when Tom opened the quarantine door.

He stood there white as a sheet, trying to figure out how to describe the scene outside. Finally he said, “You just have to come see this.”

We followed Tom up to one of the decks and looked out over the port, over all of Mobile. There were zombies everywhere. I mean every space that a human, or should I say dead body could occupy. Then there were zombies on top of those zombies. You just have to see it. I can understand why Tom had trouble describing it. It's like the Grand Canyon, unless you are standing there taking it in you really can’t appreciate it.

The wave of zombies that had been following us was just the tip of the iceberg. Now the full horde was here. In fact it was their arrival that had rocked the battleship. A fucking battleship. When the crowd had reached the water they just continued over the side until the space between the hull and the pier had filled up with bodies. At that point the horde simply walked across the zombie mass and hit the side of the ship.

I looked at Tom and I told him, “I’ve seen a shit-load of zombies in my time but this doesn’t even come close.”

Tom looked back at me and said, “That’s not what I brought you up here to see.”

Tom pointed off to the northwest and my gaze followed his finger. There I saw a man wearing a medieval helmet and dressed in some kind of makeshift armor. He was on top of a horse trotting down Main Street. The zombies parted to let him pass as he made his way towards our battleship.

Tom said what we all were thinking, “Who the fuck is that?”

The horse rider pulled a bull horn out of his saddle bag, placed it up to his helmet, and started calling my name.

It was Jonas.

Simon please feel free to explain this to me, cause I don't get it..

Don't worry, Sandy. It will be explained within the story soon. Just hang in there.

I don't think I remember who Jonas is...?? Help me out here!!

Is he a carrier like Harvey?? Is that why they parted for him?? Or is he behind it ALL....

Jonas was the leader of St. Matthews who helped Mike, killed Brad, and had the bus load of carriers held hostage. Last we heard from him we found out he is apparently a carrier himself. When we left him the carriers were going after him.

Hope that helps. :)
